Health and Safety

Health and Safety is ELM’s top priority. We are dedicated to providing a safe and healthful environment for our employees, team members and clients by providing an effective Environmental Safety and Health Program which is carried throughout our organization. ELM has had no reportable or recordable accidents since its formation in 2007. ELM’s EMR rating for the current year is 0.90, well below industry standards. The Health and Safety culture at ELM starts from senior management and extends throughout the entire company. ELM encompasses a policy that all personnel have the authority to “stop work” should they feel that Health or Safety is being compromised. This is not only a right for each employee…but a responsibility.

Meet the Team

Michael Gortner

President

Mr. Gortner is currently President and Sr. Project Manager with ELM Solutions Corp. He joined the company soon after its formation to assist in its growth and adds his superior management skills and extensive experience in Alaska and other remote environments to the firm’s capabilities.

He is responsible for the onsite operations of various remote site projects in Alaska, including all on and offsite activities. Responsibilities include compliance with federal and local environmental, transportation, and safety laws and regulations. Mr. Gortner is also responsible for managing and ensuring compliance of any subcontracted operations as well.

Prior to joining ELM, Mr. Gortner was the General Manager in the Northwest for General Environmental Management, Inc. where he directed the day‐to‐day field operations, developed comprehensive bid proposal packages, implemented environmental, health and safety compliance programs, monitored and ensured environmental, health and safety compliance of all services provided. He also analyzed and monitored service quotes and bids, including profit margins on projects to ensure company margin goals were achieved, as well as managed field operations including supervision of projects, evaluating proposed projects, coordinating personnel with projects, overseeing work plans/safety plans and evaluating finished projects.

Cherish Gortner

Corporate Secretary/Treasurer

Ms. Gortner is currently the corporate secretary and treasurer of ELM Solutions Corp. Ms. Gortner's responsibilities include corporate support in the form of IT infrastructure, health and safety, and accounting. She also supports the project management team in planning and executing jobs.

Ms. Gortner has previously been responsible as IT Director for a number of firms, including functioning as Safety Officer, focusing on corporate disaster recovery operations and emergency response plans. In addition, Ms. Gortner has operational experience in TSDF plant operations, treatment chemistry, hazardous materials classification and disposition, transportation and disposal regulations in Alaska, Washington and California.
